Disneyland Oogie Boogie Bash 2022 Tips and Tricks You Need to Know!

After attending the opening night of Disneyland’s Oogie Boogie Bash 2022, here are all the tips and tricks you need to know to navigate the night stress-free and with the best use of your time. Many of these tips I haven’t seen anywhere else!

The Oogie Boogie Bash is easily the most popular nightly event and strategic planning for your night will help you make the most of your time. Whether you’re attending photo shoots, treats, or trips without the wait, hopefully you’ll find this post incredibly useful.

1. Use DCA photographers during the mix (3pm-6pm)

There are photographers located throughout Disneyland California Adventure, especially Carsland. If you want to get some nice photos with your family, friends or partner, I suggest you look for them before the event starts.

Once the event starts, there aren’t that many and the lines for all the photos get very long. This is also a great way to get photos if you don’t care that much about taking photos with the characters. Just tell the photographer you want to take fun, creative photos that aren’t too possessive and let those creative juices flow!

2. Hocus Pocus Photo Shoot at Oogie Boogie Bash 2022

The most popular photo shoot at this year’s Oogie Boogie Bash 2022 is easily Mini, Daisy, and Clarabelle dressed as the Hocus Pocus witches. I recommend lining up for this photo shoot at 5:30 pm before the event officially begins.

Surprisingly, the Oogie Boogie Bash 2022 maps that are given out are very vague and don’t tell you where the photographs are. I asked 4 different cast members and they had no idea either. The Hocus Pocus photo shoot is next to Monsters Inc. and across from the Cruella Treat Trail.

Update as of 9/16/22: The line at the start of the night is now incredibly long. It is reported that the best time to do this photo shoot is right after the last parade to get the shortest wait time. Some even said the line is as short as 10 minutes if you go after the second parade.

3. Grove of villains

Villians Grove is the longest queue at the event. It’s out of control and easily a 1-2 hour wait. But here is a tip. Villians Grove doesn’t start until after sunset. If you’re going to attend the 2022 Oogie Boogie Bash in September, chances are it won’t be open when the event starts.

This will give you time to run after your first photo shoot. Make sure to be in line for Villians Grove 30 minutes before sunset. Trust me, the 30 minute wait will be the shortest of the night.

4. Treat the trails

No one really explains goodie trails very well, so let me break them down for you. The candy trail features several stations with sweets and healthy treats, usually 4 in total. Cast members hand out a handful of candy at each station or a healthy snack like Sunchips or Graham Crackers. On a treat run, you will receive 2 handfuls of candy and two healthy treats. The candy is always the same on each candy route and is a mix of snickers, mars, 3 musketeers, twix, skittles and starburst.

At the end or in the middle of each trail of goodies is a popular evil character that you can take a quick photo or video of. They also interact with guests as they move down the line. These lines are relatively fast, but some are much longer than others, like Ernesto de Coco and Cruella.

My advice, if you just want lots of yummy treats, find the shortest trails of treats and go through them as many times as you like. I went through Maleficent Treat Trail 3 times without expecting anything so I could stock up on solar chips. The shortest trails I found were Maleficent, Grizzly River Run, and Marvel Land.

5. The parade

The parade at Oogie Boogie Bash is hands down my favorite Disneyland parade of all time. Every night there are two of them at 7:45 pm and 10 pm. Don’t miss the beginning of the parade. The most wonderful part is seeing the headless horseman descend to start the parade!

6. Travel without waiting

Some people care about rides and some don’t. I personally love that there is no waiting for attractions, especially the ones I don’t go to much anymore since they got rid of fast passes. If you want to hop on Cars with hardly any wait, go during one of the parades.

Oogie Boogie Magic Key Bags

7. Goodie bags

Carry a large bag of sweets. The one they give is tiny. Even better, match your bag to your costume!

If you are a magic key holder. You can pick up a special bag at Symphony Swings. I love that no one tells you it’s available, but they’re cute mini vinyl bags instead of the plastic bag they give everyone else.

Update 9/9/22: You also get regular sized candy and there is a Magic Key popcorn bucket. If you are the owner of the magic key, do not miss this area of the park during the event!

8. Magic key holders or buy an all-day ticket

If you possess the magic key or are interested in purchasing an all-day park jumper, enter California Adventure at 2 pm to avoid parking and entry lines. I made the mistake of being on time for an after hours event and parking took 45 minutes and entrance to the park took another 45 minutes. Never more!

Please arrive no later than 2:00 pm and put your name on the waiting list for Lamplight Lounge or Wine Country Trattoria. Enjoy a nice late lunch and at 3:00 pm you can get your Oogie Boogie Bash 2022 bracelet inside the park. You will find the check-in on the opposite side of the Wine Country Trattoria.

9. If you are a pin collector

The Oogie Boogie Treat Trail has a spooky pin they’re giving out.

10. Dining room

If you dine at Wine Country Trattoria prior to the event, you can request the pre-arranged dining package when you arrive. It’s a $59 3-course meal that will also give you access to a reserved parade standing area.

If you really want to see the parade front row and a nice cozy seat, you can book the dessert party at Sonoma Terrace. This includes a selection of spooky desserts, drinks, and a seat at tables that are set up front and center for the parade. This is $89 per person.

Throughout the night I highly recommend using mobile ordering. Towards the evening after 8:00 pm, there are limited food options available. I had to order from Pyms Test Kitchen and that chicken sandwich was horrible. At night, the only things available are the Cozy Cones, Pyms and Corn Dogs.
